Humble and Courageous

Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.

2 - Reflect
Not long ago I attended a talk on a topic related to work. The speaker was a renowned scientist with many doctorates, a living encyclopedia, as it were. The man knew a lot, he had acquired knowledge in the many times he had studied different careers.

I know all this from the repeated occasions in which the man talked about how much he had studied and how much he knew. I must admit that having met the man in person I was quite disappointed. The fact that he needed to constantly remind people about his knowledge inevitably showed a side of lack. On the way home, I mused about experience, and how easy it is for some to confuse knowledge with wisdom. That man possessed much knowledge, but that did not make him a wise man.

Let us remember then how Christ encourages us to pursue wisdom, before which knowledge has no place. That man let his pride overshadow all the good that he possessed, and that showed a lack of humble spirit, a severe insecurity and lack of self-confidence. Let us remember God, wise and all-knowing, and his characteristic humility, his devotion to all, regardless of origin or past, regardless of the pure of sinners.
