Within the religious community to which I belong, there is a great variety of believers, and by this I mean the most diverse personalities that we can imagine. As is to be expected, they are all very kind people and we all help each other to continue walking God's path in the way He expects.
Just last week we had met and discussed a particular topic that had come to light thanks to the fact that we all have teenage children. We were talking about their overexposure on social networks, and how it was very easy for them to fall into the clutches of feelings such as haughtiness or selfishness; ostentation and vanity.
We all agree that one thing leads to another and, especially when you are a teenager, it is at times very easy to get caught up in a maelstrom of new sensations that ultimately cause us to lose our way. But the interesting thing is that there was someone who said that it was not wise to kill self-love for fear that vanity would appear, let us remember that God urges us to love our neighbors as well as ourselves.
Self-love gives us the recognition that drives us to strive for more, to recognize our efforts and to never give up, just as God wants us to. Let us remember then that loving ourselves is the first step in learning to love others.
