An Example Lacking Real Support

No one should seek their own good, but the good of others.

To walk the path of the Lord, although it is sacrificial, also brings infinite joys that we will surely not find anywhere else.

The feeling that we, the children of Christ, experience every time we help our neighbor is simply priceless and, at the same time, it is a unique and I would even dare to say addictive sensation.

But just as it possesses those attributes, it is also prone to become a double-edged sword that, if left unnoticed, can lead us away from the path to the Most High.

First of all, we must understand that by helping our neighbor, we are fulfilling one of the desires that God left us, that of loving our neighbor; but at the same time, we are also preaching His word through the examples that He has also bequeathed to us. So, what kind of example are we setting? It is precisely here where all that help can turn against us if we do not keep in mind that giving help to others is extending a hand to them, giving to those who do not have.

We should not make the mistake of helping for our own merit, since that is not the way God works; in that way we would be giving an empty example, devoid of any purpose. God knows how much we do for others and how dignifying for Him is the help we give unselfishly. Speculation is the sister of selfishness, feelings that are breeding grounds for temptation.
