Living with loneliness
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”
2 Corinthians 1:3-4

My mother finally had the whole house to herself, but she began to feel very bad about it. It was the first time that she could cook whenever she wanted, do her activities without interruptions, take care of her garden, but something caused her anguish. My father had passed away some time ago, and each of us had already started our adult lives. There were no teenagers screaming at home, or shared dinners, it was only her and her loneliness. She had spent so much of her entire life caring for others that now she could not take care of herself and began to get very depressed.
In the mourning process and the "empty nest", a time that refers to the departure of the children from home, adults either take a path of despair or they understand that they are part of a community and that they are not truly alone. If they do that then they are presented with a real opportunity to connect with themselves, to give themselves joy in God's grace. They should understand that they will always be united with our Heavenly Father, and He will give them comfort and be with them. The home will be a good place for rest and reflection through daily prayer; outside of it they can carry out activities that motivate them and put them in contact with the community they belong to.
