Abstaining is often the easiest way. When faced with the frustration we feel when we are unable to achieve what we set out to do, abstaining from chasing that objective is the easiest way out. We have surely tried for weeks or months to reach that goal and because of an error in our plans we haven't achieved victory. It is often in those times that we become upset with the Lord, because we think that He has not awarded us in some way. What we are unable to understand in that instance is that God has given us a valuable lesson: one of effort, of trying again, a lesson of love and learning.
We do not have to remain upset and disappointed in ourselves, but rather the opposite is true. We must value having tried, failed, and started over. The process surely will have highs and lows, but the fear of going for it again must not paralyze us but rather push us to try and get it again. If we refuse to try we will not be able to see that something good is on its way. God always guides us towards what we desire, He will give us the calm and perseverance we need in order to move forward over and over again, catching us whenever we fall. Only He will be witness to our bravery when we try it again.
